The Irrawaddy dolphin lives in coastal waters, estuaries, and several rivers across South and Southeast Asia. A small freshwater population lives in Myanmar's Ayeyarwady River.

These dolphins are known for their rounded foreheads and their cooperative relationship with some local fishers. Habitat loss, accidental capture in fishing gear, and other human pressures make their conservation especially important.
